Ombre hair

If you have been reading my blog for some time, you might remember when my obsession with ombre hair began last spring. After dyeing my hair darker than my natural color using demi permanent color for years, I took the plunge with messy highlights. From there, I had a reddish brown put on my roots to blend the grown out look. About a month after that, I I had more highlights put in on the under layers so that there wasn't so much left over of the almost black color I favored for so long.

Since then, I have made a few trips to Sally's beauty supply and read up a bit more online. Part of me just wants to put a light brown gloss over the whole thing, and part of me figures after spending quite a chunk of money to get it here, I should just continue dyeing my little gray roots that grow in.

Here is where it is now

If you're interested in learning more about, by far, the easiest way to add highlights and with the least amount of upkeep, check out this tutorial from Hair on the Brain.

The pictures of Lily Aldridge remind me again why I've gone through all this hassle. The tutorial even tempts me to add a few more highlights around my face. However, I am STILL getting used to having bleached parts of my hair!

The Vogue Diaries

I have been a bit behind on blog reading lately; I've just had so much going on.  Plus, when I'm on the computer, I have been Skyping Aaron or emailing him, so then I'm ready to do something in the real world when I'm done.

However, a couple of months ago, I discovered The Vogue Diaries.  I LOVE the pictures--the clothes, the makeup, the hair.  Oh my.  Check it out.

As a semi-related topic, I have been really over my bangs (and my hair in general.)  The one thing keeping me excited about it is growing out my bangs and having fun with the center part.  I'm over side swept, and into centered.

It is semi-related because these pictures are from The Vogue Diaries:

Turban headscarf

I looked all summer for the right scarf to do this with.  Well, let me amend that statement:  Whenever I was in a clothing store, I looked for one.  I have not had time to do much shopping this summer.  I have been in housewife mode, and trying to squeeze in all time possible with Aaron before he leaves for seven months.

I still believe that cheap, fun accessories are the best update for any wardrobe.  I definitely have fun with hair stuff.

I will post a picture when I'm less disgusting from packing up our apartment.

Here is my inspiration from a great blog:

Nude Lip Trick

I love the Glamour beauty blog. I hadn't read it in over a month, but just started again today and saw this:

Fun Sites

Today at work, I discovered "Confessions of a Wannabe Fashionista." I love her way of putting things together in a really conservative, classy, simple-with-a-twist way.

Check it out.

Also, I've been enjoying Mopshots...real girls' hair cuts and styles from around the country.

Big Fat Bun

I read about this hair donut on the Glamour beauty blog.

And last summer, happened across this tutorial. It is great and I wear my hair like that all the time. Check out pursebuzz's tutorial.

Here's me at Lindsy's wedding. My hair/makeup had to be done in under 5 minutes since I was doing the bride's hair/makeup until then. I was so stressed about her that I didn't plan on doing my own!

Fat Girl!!

So my friend Julia, a reader of my very shallow blog, started her own blog a few weeks ago. It is a much less shallow blog, full of brilliant and original recipe ideas. She is seriously a genius. I am amazed everytime I read it. I have bookmarked so many recipes, and can't decide which to do first.

Pale Lips

I have been obsessed with the super pale lips that I first started to see everywhere last summer. I'm loving my Cover Girl lipstick to achieve this, but was super excited to see this article on Glamour.com.

Dry Shampoo

It is so cold here. I'm talking the 40's during the day. This is tough for me. I feel cold most of the time. Especially immediately before and after showering. In fact, it makes me want to shower even less than my normal every other day. I have actually had to start drying (diffusing) my hair because I don't want to catch my death with wet hair in arctic temperatures (I exaggerate slightly.)

So, I was pleased to remember my love affair with dry shampoo. I haven't been using it lately, ever since I grew out my bangs. I have posted about it before here.

But, this is a great instruction list for dry shampoo virgins. It makes me want to stretch my hair washing out over another day.

She's Back

Mindy Kaling's blog is finally back. She plays Kelly on The Office, and is also one of the writers. I love her enthusiasm, cynicism and commentary. You can also just hear Kelly saying all of these things. Hilarious.

Pretty Kitty Mascara Obsessions

I have just discovered a new beauty blog. She too has a mascara obsession. Stop in and read her tips and reviews for mascara. And she also watches QVC and gets obsessed with products...

As for my life this week, I am exhausted! Not "fatigue", as in my Chronic Fatigue. It is always refreshing to simply be tired from staying out too late here and there, exercising, having fun...namely, starting to have a life again. In other news, Amelia finally let me paint both feet of toenails!! It took some coaxing and cajoling to con her into sitting still, but totally worth it. They look adorable and actually match my toes at the moment. Lastly, I am going to cut about an inch and a half at least off my hair this Friday. I will post some pre-cut pictures as it nears the dreaded Cher length (as in the singer-actress, not character from "Clueless.")

For now, check out these little piggies...

"Because I'm Addicted" Blog Rant

I sometimes check out a blog called "Because I'm Addicted." She wrote a great post on cellulite and how all normal women have it. I love it! Check it out.
